A fascinating collection of letters, depicting the travels and interests of the upper classes in 18th-century Great Britain; the individual letters, forming the chapters of these volumes, are not individually dated. John Macky, a Scotsman, acted as a spy for various British monarchs, see his "Memoirs of the Secret Services … During the Reigns of King William, Queen Anne, and King George I", 1733]. Attractive woodcut head- and tail-pieces and decorative capitals. Contemporary name on title of Vol I; later name on half title of Vol 2 o/w a handsome, tight and crisp set.
