With various inscriptions on front fly leaf as follows: 'Elizabeth Gawler / Her Book a Parting Gift from the Revd M.F.Evans April 15th, 1878', beneath which is written: 'Given me by my old parishioner Betsy Gawler sometime cook to the Rev Henry Moule at a wage of 8£ per annum. Ri Grosvenor Bartelot / Vicar of Fordington 1906'. Beneath which Roger Peers, whose bookplate is on front end paper, has written that he acquired the book from the library of H.F.V.Johnstone. A veritable ancestry of this book written there, on the fly leaf. Attractive and full of pathos.
